Finland – Another Global BIM Leader
Small Finland is also one of the pioneers in BIM implementation. At the same time, like in Great Britain, USA, Denmark and some other countries, the transition to information technologies in construction solves not only domestic tasks but is also designed to help Finnish construction companies compete in the international market.
The goal of this struggle is to become a leader in the global construction industry using new technology, and through international dissemination of BIM application experience, as well as national regulatory documents and classifiers to “stake out” new markets for construction services.
In Finland, the process of implementing information technologies (primarily modeling) in construction began in the 1990s. Its development led to government construction services requiring BIM for their projects starting in 2007. Initially, it was understood according to the IFC standard and compliance with national recommendations, which gradually transformed into COBIM (Common BIM Requirements).
